5 Traffic Trends for Black Friday

The analysis of five days of Black Friday data shows that Amplience served over 17 billion content and media items, which equates to almost half a petabyte of delivery from our load balanced CDN infrastructure. We delivered third of a normal month of content delivery in just five days. This is an overall uplift of 85.5% of traffic from Black Friday 2015.

For the whole of November Amplience delivered over 2.3 P Bytes and 73 Billion content items an increase of 33% of average monthly traffic.

Content Delivery for Black Friday Period

Last year Black Friday began early Friday morning with very sharp increases in traffic around 8am. However, this year our analysis confirms that the earlier preparation that many retailers undertook for Black Friday and in many cases releasing early online offers on the Thursday evening had the desired effect, as we hit our highest peak of the period serving 103,000 content requests per second on Thursday evening.
